About me
Mr. Brian Grantham graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1995 from Guilford College. Shortly after his graduation he move to Hawaii.
Always the teacher at heart, Brian found himself working for YMCA Camp Erdman, an environmental education camp, which caters to many students from schools across the state. There he quickly learned the culture of Hawaii and happily embraced it while teaching environmental and experiential education utilizing challenge courses and adventure tripping.
After 8 years at YMCA Camp Erdman, he applied for a teaching position at the Mid-Pacific Institute, one of Hawaii’s premier K-12 educational institutions. Brian was hired as a part-time social studies teacher in the middle school. Later he became a full-time social studies teacher in the middle school and eventual became technology teacher for the middle school.
As time went on, it was evident that Brian was quite passionate about technology such as computers, apps and the internet. IPads, 3D Printers, and virtual reality were types of “tech” that he had an opportunity to use, share with
the students and to teach them to use.
In addition to his duties of teaching technology courses in the middle school, Brian started managing the technology, equipment and administrative network duties, in the middle school. During his time in this position he was also instrumental in the design of the Chew Technology Center. Under Brian’s
leadership, structural changes as well as curriculum changes took place in this technology center intended for our middle school students.
Eventually, Brian was offered his current position as the Director of Educational Technology for the entire Mid-Pacific Institute, PreK-12th grade. In this position, Brian is responsible for managing technology equipment across the entire campus, providing training for staff and parent, promoting new technology to the staff and providing curriculum connections with this new technology. He has also been instrumental in the design of the Weinberg Technology Plaza in the high school. One of Brian's greatest strengths is the ability to bridge relationships at the school. He has the ability to bring people together to work toward common goals. Through his leadership, he was able to connect the elementary, middle school, high school and the IT department to work together in order to collaborate and communicate on schoolwide technology plans.
Under Brian’s leadership, technology curriculum is being taught at all grade levels such as robotics, engineering, computer science, immersive technology and product manufacturing. Processes that streamline how software and application are installed wirelessly to multiple devices at one time were
created. Training for staff and parents regarding technology were led and taught by Brian both virtually and in-person were also developed and conducted by Brian and his colleagues. On his free time, Brian is also active with the Mid-Pacific Institute Owls Robotics team as well as the Cyber Patriot team. He loves to watch his college basketball and spending time with his wife, two boys
and his golden retriever, Uno.
