About me
How many ways do you know how to cook a hot dog? I bet you could think of a bunch. A room full of people could probably think of over a hundred ways to cook a hot dog, and it would be an exciting conversation.
But, what if I told you there was only 1 way to properly cook a hot dog? And, if you do it any other way, I will rank you as a failed learner.
Why do we teach to standards? Why is curriculum in schools confined to relatively narrow scopes of significance? Why is learning governed by an institution rather than an individual, or community?
I'm not going to sugarcoat it - I think the education system needs a complete reboot, and I believe it's a fools errand to design within systems that fail people. Despite this take, I am an optimist, and am entirely enthusiastic about the promise for change. Talk to me about decentralization, ownership, equity, communities of practice, emergence, school adjacent programs, or any of the other driving forces that can lead to a better education system. Or hot dogs.
