Across the world we profoundly underestimate the ability of students—to think deeply, to take on responsibility, to create beautiful work. Outside of school, we depend on young people to do vital things—take care of our children as babysitters, take care of their siblings and grandparents, act as translators for families, and work in family businesses. In school, we often act as if they are incapable of responsibility. Ron Berger will interview two Japanese educational thinkers and their two brilliant high school children who have experienced education across cultures in Japan, the United States, and Europe. We will investigate together with the audience ways in which different cultures and countries do a good job of unleashing student potential and where and how we do not.
