Supporting student learning sounds like something all educators want, but our grading practices may actually inhibit student development. In fact, our grading practices communicate our values but often don’t communicate what is most important: a student’s learning. Join us as we discuss our experience with Competency-Based Grading, a practice that redefines what it means for students to be successful in and out of the classroom. Participants will consider what values from their school and classrooms might serve as competencies and will propose exemplary assignments and reflection questions to make those competencies clear in the eyes of students and the wider school community.
