Thursday April 3, 2025 9:30am - 2:45pm PDT
This session invites educators with conscience to critically reexamine Baldwin’s call to “go for broke” in addressing national and global events affecting our school communities. Drawing on insights from Black thought leaders James Baldwin, Clint Smith, and Ta-Nehisi Coates, we will explore how socio-political pressures suppress critical thinking and civil discourse, hindering students’ learning and development. Participants will engage in interactive reflective practices and conversations to examine how the forces of silence, censorship, and institutional neutrality impact their school communities and classrooms. We will share approaches and resources for how school administrators and teachers can model for and guide their school communities to respond to events. At the end of the session, participants will create an action plan to implement in their school, district, or institution.

Lunch is included in each deep dive.
